AMD 3950X Crosshair VIII Impact Build (ft. Lazer3D LZ7)
Oh Boy!!  It's time for a new PC.  I haven't really built anything since my old 9900K build TwilightsmileHeart

I went on a search for the smallest ITX case that has the GPU installed directly on the motherboard.  I came across the Lazer3D LZ7, a 7-liter SFF ITX case made from laser-cut acrylic and 3D-printed structure.  Came from the UK in less than a week.  They said it would only fit an ITX board, so I decided to see if I could shove a DTX board in instead.  Now I'm waiting for the other parts.  I should have everything else within two weeks.  I got the PSU, case and cooling solutions already.  I have received the Cablemod cables, as I wanted very short cables.

Since it is advised not to go over a 65W TDP processor for this case, for cooling reasons, I decided to get a Ryzen 3950X 16-core space heater to throw in it.  What's another 40W TDP matter, anyway Yay

My Parts List so far:

ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Impact Mini-DTX
AMD Ryzen 3950X 16-Core AM4 CPU
32GB Tridentz RGB 3600mhz CL16
Firecuda 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD M.2
EVGA SuperNOVA 650W SFX Power Supply
2 Corsair LL RGB 140mm Fans
MSI RTX 2070 Mini
Lazer3D LZ7 Mini ITX case
Noctua NH-L9A Low-Profile AM4 Cooler
92mmX25mm fan upgrade for L9A
CableMod Cables

I really like this case, but it only supports GPUs up to 186mm, which excludes all Zotac mini GPUS.  I got an MSI RTX 2070 Mini which is the only higher-end card I could find.  I can throw the 2080ti in the other system as there are no size limits in that one.  I got a roll of glossy black 3D Carbon Fiber vinyl wrap for the case.  I did one side already and like the results.  I will probably do the whole case in it if I have the patience.  I suck at vinyl wrapping.

That's going to be a really nice computer build, but why such a small computer case? you want it to be relatively portable?

The thought of cramming an unnecessary amount of power in such a small case. Now if only they would make tiny 2080s.  Plus, my house is only 16 feet by 20 feet, space is a premium.

You know, they make small threadripper motherboards too...

[edit]

Apparently its only for the X399 threadripper chipset that is essentially dead now. https://www.newegg.com/asrock-x399m-taic...6813157801
There are no MicroATX motherboards for the TRX40 threadripper chipset.

As soon as they make a TR4 ITX board, I’m all there. I mean, they did it with X99. But I do have an upcoming build I was considering with a Corsair Crystal 570x, a TR 3990X, 128GB memory, two or three 2080ti, and custom cooling, with an add on water chiller.

It is very unlikely that there is going to be another threadripper chipset before DDR5. There is only one more generation of ryzen before DDR5. No extra features, and the only thing that will be different is the cache and core count per CCX. TRX40 already has PCIe 4, so there is really nothing to change to even come close to needing a new threadripper socket

Turns out the 2080 Ti is too big for my other build.  So I am definitely scrapping the X99 system.  The 3950x system in the LZ7 case will still be my daily driver.  I will being getting an sTRX4 ATX motherboard and a Threadripper.  I like the Corsair 570x Mirrored glass case and it should be big enough for a Threadripper build with two MSI 2080 Ti Gaming X Trios.  Then I have to see if I can find a big enough air cooler for it (do those exist yet?) or a big AIO cooler TwilightsmileHeart

If the X99 system runs without a video out, I will maybe get a tiny ITX case that only holds a barebones system.  The 14-core Xeon is a few years old now, but still very good at BOINC.  I could get another year out of it.  I wouldn't bother upgrading it again unless some company floods the market with a bunch of used E5 2699 v4 Xeons.  Right now, they are around $700 each or so, a new Ryzen system would serve me better otherwise.

Yay

I'm pretty damn sure I bought an MSI 2070 Mini, but they sent me a Gigabyte 2070 Mini  Derpytongue2

I also placed an order for another LZ7 case.  But the bank just wouldn't let it go through.  Probably because it's a UK website and I'm in the US.  Not sure how I successfully received the first one, though.  Oh well  Fluttercry

As expected, 95°C across all 16 cores Yay

I now wish I would’ve got 64 GB of memory. It is using 28 out of 32. Which most likely means I would use more if it were available.

How are you using so much memory?
